What is Artificial Intelligence? Future of AI in Our Lives

Artificial Intelligence is the representation of human processes and tasks execution with computer programs. AI products are built to take on these tasks or complete such processes within a lesser timeframe and with less effort. The benefits of AI in different industries explain the widespread acceptance and recent buzz. But you don’t have to listen too closely to hear the loud criticisms and murmurs that follow their growth lately.

The first human interaction with AI came in an online Checkers game programmed to compete with human players making decisions on the best tactics. In hindsight, AI tools are a long way ahead as they now perform more intelligent tasks.

Therefore, understanding what Artificial Intelligence is, its processes, presence, and potential in our daily lives will help you choose what side you’re on (pro-AI, or anti-AI).

Spoiler Alert: Your choice is limited

What Makes Artificial Intelligence Tick?

AI thrives on the provision of data refined to act like knowledge in a sentient being. The extent of your output is dependent on prior knowledge related to whatever task you undertake. Artificial intelligence tools then, turn the data acquired into information useful for task execution in line with pre-established rules also known as Algorithms.

An algorithm is a sequence of instructions written on a computer system to solve a particular task given certain conditions are met. Every sentient being gets to understand that the solution to common headaches is paracetamol. It becomes artificial intelligence when the computer system is also trained to grasp this knowledge and help people solve their headaches. Furthermore, it also understands when the headache comes with an underlying health problem and adapts to a new reality.

AI In Our Daily Lives

The research into the world of AI keeps increased significantly over the years. This knowledge expansion justifies the groundbreaking AI solutions we have out there presently.

Music Streaming Algorithms

Think about your favorite music streaming platform creating playlists to suit your preference. The playlists undergo periodic corrections to ensure that you discover songs that suit you. I won’t forgive Spotify for describing me as a ‘Nomad’ in their end-of-year Wrap-up but I couldn’t even disagree with the accuracy of their conclusion.

Is it Auto-correct or the Truth?

Also, nobody enjoys being rattled out by our phone keyboards when they reveal some of our dark secrets. Remember the last time you blamed the nasty text you sent to your crush on autocorrect, lol.  But, on a serious note, your phone keyboard only uses an element of AI to suggest the next words depending on the context of our conversation. It is frustrating though when it changes your ‘love you’ text to ‘luck you’. It’s not like you meant the ‘love’ anyways.

ChatGPT in Our Faces

The latest and most controversial addition is the introduction of ChatGPT, an interaction tool predicted to disrupt customer service communication for businesses and creative processes. The strength of these assertions remains to be seen but a glimpse at the reception and features of this AI tool is unsettling for stakeholders in different industries. The ability of AI to keep people out of their jobs is a reality we will adjust to in the coming years.

What is the Future of Artificial Intelligence in Our Lives?

The future of Artificial Intelligence in our lives is one without limits. AI tools will continue to open the path for more efficient task executions with a significant reduction in efforts needed and potential errors. But, that is not all the future holds. In my opinion, we are on course for a bitter-sweet reality.

The Industrial Phaseouts

This advantage presented by AI innovations leaves us with the challenge of phaseouts.  There is a concern that AI is capable of taking a certain percentage of people out of jobs. This is starting to play out in the automation of tasks in different industries where manual labor was previously required.

Now, in factories, laborious tasks in manufacturing and recordkeeping are getting automated with tools like drones, robots, etc. This change reflects heavily on the dynamics of job openings. While this reality might be valid, allowing AI tools to enhance your efficiency at work is a no-brainer if you must stay employed.

Potential Privacy and Anonymity Breaches

The major concern in the adoption of AI is the problem of privacy and anonymity. Daily interaction with AI tools that serve as personal assistants exposes users to breaches in privacy.

Now, you can’t search for any information online without the algorithm displaying different advertisements related to your search later on. Conversations get monitored, cams are recorded and daily movements are stored. This opens the security of people’s lives to individuals or government agencies who can use information gathered for different purposes which could be harmful.

Artificial Intelligence Gives us More Wiggle Room for Creativity

Artificial Intelligence takes a chunk off our shoulders, allowing us to get more introspective and creative. With AI tools, you can employ your inner creativity to create new paths for efficiency and ease in your respective industries. “Easy does it” becomes the norm.

Also, the labor market will shift from exploiting humans to undertake dangerous and physical tasks with meager pay to paying people for their creative contributions. This change is possible as AI tools can now take on these other tasks.

Handy Security Aids

AI tools come in handy in tackling security problems. Tools like face recognition make it easy to recognize people despite changes that might occur. AI tools will work across the board without discrimination or favoritism that comes with human relations.

There are AI tools that help companies to detect breaches to their systems and potential threats to online security. This application of AI will invariably make companies trust technologies more in undertaking their daily activities and also protect people online. Little wonder Facebook can warn you when a message or profile is suspicious.

Conclusions on Artificial Intelligence

As each day introduces another milestone in the growth of AI technology, it is clear that being ignorant is not an option. From the e-commerce advert algorithm used on Facebook and Instagram to bring ad content relevant to our daily search, to the introduction of ChatGPT, one can only wonder what’s next.

Overall, the application of AI has and will continue to disrupt the status quo in different aspects of our lives. Therefore, not leveraging them is also not an option. The question, however, is, how much do you know to decide how you plan to leverage these AI tools?
